AROUND JOSE LAKE
AT THE RESORT
The resort is located on almost 2 acres and has over 200 feet of frontage on an all sports lake that is stocked with a variety of fish such as walleye, bass, bluegill, pike and perch. We have a sandy beach and volleyball court as well as horseshoe pits and a play area for the kids. Cabin renters have a designated barbeque grill as well as a rowboat for their stay and are given access to our "activities shed" which is equipped with life jackets, swim toys, croquet sets and more.
Grab a scoop of ice cream to enjoy while sitting at one of the picnic tables that are located throughout the property and keep an eye out for the bald eagles that call Jose Lake home. The campfire pit is lakeside and is perfect for roasting marshmallows.
VISIT THE AU SABLE RIVER
The stunning Au Sable River is only a few miles from the resort and according to the DNR it is a major tributary to Lake Huron. It is home to many fish species such as bass, pike, brown trout, walleye, perch, sunfish, steelhead, and salmon. There are several overlooks that feature breathtaking views of it, especially in the fall. Take a tour on the Au Sable River Queen or schedule a Rollway's canoe trip and experience the beautiful nature up close - you may even see wildlife in the woods!
WICKER HILLS GOLF COURSE
Schedule your desired tee time for this beautiful public 18-hole golf course. It is a full-service facility that offers a pro shop and multiple tee distances that caters to players of all ages and skill level. They are located off M-65 in Hale which is about an 8-minute drive from the resort.
HALE AREA EVENTS
Hale is the town located about 12 miles south of Jose Lake Store & Resort. They host the Iosco County Fair and Michigan Mud Jam in the summer, Balloon Fest in the early fall, and Winterfest around January.
There are many ORV trails in close proximity to Jose Lake Store & Resort, one of which you may have come in on if you followed your GPS directions! Nevertheless, they are kept pretty well-groomed and make for a great day of action. ORV and trail permits are sold in the store.
LUMBERMAN'S MONUMENT & IARGO SPRINGS
Located in a forest that was heavily logged in the second half of the 19th-century, Lumberman's Monument stands about 14 feet tall in tribute to all of the loggers in the industry. The park is open year-round at no charge to visitors. It features pathways that have exhibits and signs, a visitor's center, and sand dunes that lead to the Au Sable.
Not far away, located on the high banks of the Au Sable River is Iargo Springs. Its observation deck provides a perfect panoramic view of the river. Follow the stairway down through the wildflowers and old-growth hardwoods to the natural springs, two of which have dams. There is a boardwalk, resting areas, and interpretive signs. See who can get to the top of the stairs the fastest and count them all on the way!
Walk the downtown of East Tawas while you window shop and enjoy the sights and sounds of Lake Huron. It’s about a 30-minute scenic drive from the resort but has some of the cutest shops. If you’d like more of a city feel, head about 40-minutes in the other direction to West Branch. There is a small downtown area but is also known for the outlet shopping.
