There is no denying smartphones can be very useful in our day-to-day lives. This advance in technology allows us to be reached anytime no matter where we are. The internet is at our fingertips and if you need something, all you have to do is ask Siri! It has come to the point some of us just can't live without our phone.
Don't get me wrong, I love the convenience this technology provides, but wasn't it nice "back in the day" when you left your house without a phone and didn't experience that panicked feeling in the pit of your stomach? Wasn't it nice to connect with people face to face, when you wanted to, and not have the distraction of a cell phone ringing? Or how about having dinner with a teenager who wasn't posting selfies and counting the number of likes it got before the main course was even served?! LOL. Silly, but true.
Having a smartphone, and using it often, isn't necessarily a bad thing but it sure is nice to take a break from it once in a while. I plan to be up north a lot this year taking in all of the summertime awesomeness at Jose Lake so why not get used to setting the phone down now?!
If you would like to do the same, here is a quick 7-day plan that will have you saying "Phone? What phone?" in no time:
Day #1- Get rid of those apps you no longer use. Unfollow anyone on social media who brings you down. Unsubscribe from the annoying e-mail lists that you are blasted from (except JLSR, we aren't obnoxious with them and you don't want to miss our deals!).
Day #2- When you wake up in the morning take some relaxing breaths and resist the urge to check your phone. Later in the afternoon, call us to reserve a lakefront cabin.
Day #3- Turn off those pesky push notifications. Set up a charging station somewhere other than your bedroom. About an hour before bed, plug your phone into that charging station and read a book while sipping on some hot tea to relax.
Day #4- Pack your suitcase. Make sure you have everything you will need for a restful weekend up north. If you need to run out for something, leave your phone at home!
Day #5- Throw your suitcase in the trunk of the car, get in and turn up the radio. Hit I-75 North and lose cell service after Standish! Once you check into your lakefront cabin, throw the cell phone in a drawer.
Day #6- Wake up to the sweet sounds of the birds. Sip coffee on the dock. Throw a line in the water or take a canoe trip down the river. Hike through the Huron National Forest and soak up the sun. Watch the sunset fireside and eat a s'more.
Day #7- Sip coffee on the dock again. Reserve your spot on the beach. Enjoy a hand-dipped ice cream, take in the fresh air and relax!
