I’m all bundled up in my winter gear with hot coffee at my side watching the sunrise over the lake. The birds are quite active this morning and the air is still. If I listen close enough, I can hear the crackling sounds the ice makes from the water moving below. There isn’t much movement around the lake as many still have their places closed up from winter. I take a deep breath, inhaling the smell of the pines that surround me, exhale all of the stress from the week, and think to myself that this is the good life.
There is just something about being up north this time of year. I can’t explain it. Perhaps it is watching the season give way to change, nature once dormant now blooming and full of life. Maybe it’s knowing that summer is just around the corner and soon the days will be longer and full of warmth. Whatever it is, it just makes living seem easy.
